QUAM ODUNSI: A PHOTO LOVE AFFAIR

Popular for his LA exhibition that was a brilliant assortment of video and film, the vintage exhibitionist, known as Quam Odunsi, rose to fame for his unique take on photography

Toting a trusty Polaroid, Fujiroid, 35mm and Super 8mm film to document the beauty of the world around him, Odunsi is inspired by sobriety and a lack thereof in his stunning LA exhibition. Following a group of friends who found adventure deep in the heart of a Californian desert and lesser known towns, Odunsi creates an ethereal series of portraits of sights and people that are reminiscent of the old, vintage era of the first camera.

Evoking feelings of nostalgia and dreams that got lost in the pillowcases just before waking hours, the sensitivity with which Odunsi captures life results in a pleasing visual journey. From empty deserts to urban life, Odunsi is able to capture the rawness of nature and people and depict relationships between man with his self, others and nature around him.

Thanks to Design Matters in LA, Odunsi’s art became open to the world. With just a little over a 1000 followers on Instagram and a social interface full of homely and comforting images, Odunsi’s aesthetic as a photographer and producer are absolutely stunning. On his way to the top, albeit slowly, Odunsi’s art is definitely worth the wait.
