KHI INFINITE: THE LIMITLESS TALENT

Khi Infinite is an American hip-hop musician and recording artist based in Chesapeake, Virginia. At the tender age of 19, Khi Infinite has made a name for himself in the up-and-coming hip hop circles due to his consistent ability to bring something new to the table.

The musician’s influences span across a wide range of genres; however, his music is largely defined by the influence of Hip-hop, Alternative R&B, and Bedroom Pop. Meanwhile, his greatest musical influences are rappers Mos Def and Andre 3000 and legendary hip hop producer, who happens to be Khi Infinite’s father, Nottz.

One of the first things that people notice about this up-and-coming recording artist is that no two of his tracks are cut from the same cloth. The diversity of Khi Infinite’s sound and style that emerges when listening to his tracks speaks to the musician’s musical talents and his visual storytelling abilities.

The music video for the song titled Lucy, released in October 2020, for example, opens with the artist sitting in the driver’s seat of his car singing the lyrics to the verse before a cameraman jumps out at him and freaks him out. The song continues with Khi Infinite sitting in his garden directly addressing the audience before a boom mic appears in the frame and scares him. In the next scene, the musician is seated on a bench about to go into the chorus before the set around him collapses.

In Lucy, amidst the lyrics about freeing his love, Khi Infinite tells a visual story about persistent anxiety about the façade of the creative exercise. The audience is reminded throughout the song that everything they are seeing is fabricated and pieced together. It seems in Lucy Khi Infinite is trying to push his listeners to see him as much more than a regular hip hop lyricist and recording artist, but also a visual storyteller who seeks to use the medium of the music video to say more about his songs and his process than the lyrics and the music ever could.

After the release of Lucy came Deep End in November 2020, which saw the budding musician’s tracks featured on Spotify’s Fresh Finds playlist. Not only did this bring a hoard of new fans to Khi Infinite’s music, but it also turned the attention of a few record labels towards him.

Although he has paused his plans to release his debut album this year, the young artist has continued to tour and release singles throughout 2021 to bolster his ever-expanding fan base.  His first release of the year, Sometimes, was met with even greater enthusiasm than his last two tracks, as the song displays the sonic versatility that the artist is now becoming well known for. In a recent interview, Khi stated that the song is not all about romance and is also about enjoying the moment and being present no matter where it is you find yourself.
