Meet Me @ The Altar

Meet Me at the Altar is an American Pop-Punk band made up of three members, namely, Tea Campbell, Ada Juarez, and Edith Johnson. Although the band formed in 2015, more recently, they have started making waves in the pop-punk scene, especially after going on tour and receiving public endorsements from various veterans of the pop-punk industry.

The band formed in 2015 after Campbell discovered Juarez’s covers of pop-punk songs posted on YouTube. After Campbell reached out for a collaboration, the two sparked a mutual friendship which eventually led to the formation of a band. Soon, they held online auditions for a lead vocalist, through whom they discovered Edith Johnson, who submitted her rendition of Paramore’s ‘All I Wanted.’ Soon, the band was complete, and after a joking text message conversation in which Johnson told Campbell to ‘meet me @ the altar,’ the band had a name.

At the end of 2015, the band released their debut self-released EP titled Red Wall, which included the single Miscommunication. The song features Johnson’s emotionally powerful vocal style over a soft acoustic guitar and synthesized orchestral backing. While Miscommunication was only the first in what was to be a long line of pop-punk singles by the band, this debut single already contained mature punk music sensibilities, including its gloomy atmosphere and confrontational lyrical style.

Since then, the trio of young women who make up Meet Me at the Altar has honed in an original style comparable with the likes of pop-punk veterans like Paramore, Twenty One Pilots, and Fall Out Boy. In 2017, they released their first self-released studio album titled, Out of Sight, Out of Mind. The album brought the trio into the spotlight in the eyes of many American pop-punk fans and earned them their very first tour in 2018.

The success of the tour, as well as the increasing popularity of the band created by their subsequent EP releases, led to the trio attaining its next milestone in the music industry. In 2020, Meet Me at the Altar was signed by a Warner-music-backed label, Fueled by Ramen, responsible for launching Paramore, Twenty One Pilots, and Fall Out Boy, the band’s most significant influences. With Fueled by Ramen, the band re-released their single Garden in 2020.

The song features an original tribute to the world of pop-punk music, with sweet and sour vocals by Johnson soaring over the song’s fast-paced punk beat and electric guitar riff. The music video for the song featured the band jamming away and having a blast in the style of the late great pop-punk music videos on MTV. Soon, Garden caught the attention of many new followers, who were captivated by the power, pride, and musical mastery that the all-female pop-punk band had expressed.

In August of 2021, Meet Me at the Altar released their first EP with Fueled by Ramen, titled Model Citizen. The album includes the singles “Feel a Thing” and “Brighter Days (Are Before Us).” As the trio creates a space in the pop-punk industry for themselves, be sure to keep an eye out for what they have in store for their followers next.
