Channel Tres

Professionally known as Channel Tres, Sheldon Young is an American singer and rapper from California. Young grew up in Los Angeles, with his great-grandparents. His interest in music goes back to the days when he would play drums for his local church’s choir.

It was further polished when he left to study in the same field at a private university in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After returning to Los Angeles, Young was introduced to studio sessions by a childhood friend. This is where he made beats for Wale, Duckwrth, Kehlani, and other great musicians.

One of the earliest credits Channel Tres had to his name was for working on “Break the Rules” by Bridge. He was also one of the very first artists who signed to Godmode Music after recording demos on his own. As soon as the association with Godmode was established, his labelmate Aaron Child produced “Tangerine” in 2018.

Just two months later, Young also produced his own work with Nick Sylvester. The track “Controller” Channel Tres is widely known for was recorded and written with Nick Sylvester.

He majorly got recognized internationally in 2018 because of "Controller," as it became a major part of the airplay on BBC Radio. “Controller” was also described as a huge cult hit by Triple J, an Australian radio station.

Moreover, in early 2019, Channel Tres went on to release more successful singles like “Sexy Black Timberlake” and “Brilliant Nigga” before launching his EP, Black Moses. Young continued living up to the hype, and in 2020, released another EP called "I Can't Go Outside." The extended play record also included features from Tinashe, Tyler, and The Creator.

However, Channel is not entirely how his music portrays him. While he strongly believes in the Holy Trinity, he has a keen interest in numerology as well. He believes in the number 333, as it is a sign of encouragement for him from divine beings. Even though he's a firm believer in fate and sees the world through divine guidance, he does not like things being out of his control.

He also prefers keeping his matters private instead of creating a false sense of achievement. In his spare time, Channel Tres writes down his new goals and executes a plan to achieve them. Making mood boards is a part of his daily routine, and he enjoys the habit profoundly.

After almost a decade of working, Channel Tres got a house in Atwater Village, in Los Angeles. His residence appears plain, resembling several other houses in the neighborhood, but inside is his Label's headquarters. Godmode has turned several artists like Yaeji and Shamir into indie rockstars, and Channel Tres is also on the path of becoming one.

In a span of two years, Young has gone on to become a rising star after staying in behind-the-scenes beat-making. Using his baritone, he has successfully given a West Coast spin to dance music.

Channel Tres continues to challenge his own creative boundaries every now and then. Recently, he also became known as Elton John’s favorite artist and had the privilege of touring with marquee acts like Vince Staples and Robyn.
