CREATIVE FREE-DOM

Dave Fee, also known as David Friley, is an American music executive, record producer, and director. He was born in Los Angeles, California, on November 13, 1986. He is well recognized for his collaborative work with fellow PGLang co-founder and friend Kendrick Lamar. Together, Free and his childhood friend Lamar, also called, The Little Homies, have co-directed several music videos. Free was also a hip-hop production crew Digi+Phonics member and co-president of the independent record label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE).

Free assisted Lamar in launching his rap career after completing his computer technician training at Centennial High School. Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, the eventual owner and CEO of TDE, recruited him one day to provide mechanical assistance. Free then utilized this opportunity to play Lamar's debut mixtape, Youngest Head Nigga in Charge. As a result of the mixtape and Free's efforts, Lamar joined TDE in 2005. Before being designated TDE's president in 2007, Free served as TDE's co-social media director with Terrence "Punch" Henderson for a while.

During his time there, he officially managed Lamar, and the two of them formed The Little Homies to oversee Lamar's projects and make music videos. He won the Grammy Award for Best Music Video for "HUMBLE," while the MTV Video Music Awards for Video of the Year and Best Hip Hop Video also went to David Free.

According to Rolling Stone, Free departed TDE in 2019 and began working independently while assisting the artist Baby Keem. Additionally, he declared that he would "go heavily into the film game." Free and Lamar introduced the "multi-lingual" creative collaborative PGLang on March 5, 2020. Free has also written and directed videos through the collective for Cash App, Converse, and Calvin Klein.

The creators of South Park, Trey Parker, Matt Stone, Kendrick Lamar, and Dave Free, will produce an unnamed comedy movie for Paramount Pictures. The project was set to start production this spring, but no director has been chosen yet. This movie will be about a young Black guy who interns as a slave reenactor in a museum and discovers that his white girlfriend's family once owned him.

Dave Free has quietly grown into a significant force in the visual arts sector of hip-hop despite receiving very little media notice. If you look back at his output, he only released original and beautiful videos in the past few years. Dave applies the same collaborative mindset and painstaking perfection to his visual talents that Kendrick utilizes to make his songs.
